Objectives and Content

The course covers the basis of leadership and has the objective of the course participant will acquire basic skills in leadership, and acquire the ability to analyze various critical situations.

Such critical situations affecting both the decision-making as well as the development leader’s role. Areas covered are decision making, group processes and leadership.



Expected Learning Outcomes

Leadership is about leading others to achieve organizational goals. One condition for the leaders being able to handle the task is in the understanding of how groups develop and how members interact within the group and with other groups outside the organization. Another condition is the ability to communicate the goals and requirements to employees, customers and other stakeholders. Various goals, team development and individual differences create a dynamic that requires that the leader has an understanding of their own role, rhetoric, communication, conflict management and leadership in different situations.

This course is intended to give the students tools to reflect on their own leadership style, and develop an understanding of the critical situations that a leader has to deal with.



After passing the course, course students will be able to:

• understand and describe the leadership, its conditions, forms and expressions in different contexts

• understand, apply and analyze theoretical models on leadership, for example leadership styles, decision making, motivation and conflict management

• apply theoretical models on a phenomenon or situation, as well as to analyze different options for interpretation or action

• analyze their own leadership development

• apply leadership by taking responsibility for their personal and their team’s development and learning

• evaluate their own and others' contributions to the group's development and learning



Teaching arrangements

The course is offered via the Internet. The course will be conducted through an educational Web-based platform which gives access to lectures, seminars, communications and discussions. Emphasis will be placed on communication and interaction between students.
