Purpose of Practice:

Our school needs a means to review student learning/progress/achievement of ALL of the students in their programs in a very comprehensive way. The faculty has decided upon an assessment framework that will be applied to all of their students and all of their classes.

Establish our framework for evaluation in Sakai
Identify key program assessments in our program classes
Assess student work in light of the program outcomes
Analyze the resulting data
Use that data as the basis to implement program changes

Lessons Learned:

Implementing the School of Education's program assessment framework required a FTE to manage and monitor the process. We initially thought that faculty would welcome the ability to use traditional courseware tools to connect their classroom activities to the program goals. However, the limitations of the current implementation of the Goal Aware tools UI require too much effort for faculty to use. We believe that a tool needs to be designed in Sakai to allow the "Assessment Coordinator" to stage assessment item reminders (linked to goals) for faculty will help to lower the barrier to using the Goal Aware tools.
