I completed my honours degree in psychology at the University of Stirling in the UK, before going on to complete a PhD in Community Psychology, also at the University of Stirling. I then went on to work as a Research Fellow at the University of Strathclyde, UK, on an ESRC funded project. On completing this project I joined the School of Psychology at Charles Sturt University as a Lecturer. I currently teach internal and distance students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. I particularly focus on enabling critical skills and independent learning. I teach introductory psychology; social psychology; critical and community psychology; qualitative research methods and postmodern approaches to discourse. I supervise research students who are carrying out critical qualitative methodologies.

I completed my honours degree in psychology at the University of Stirling in the UK, before going on to complete a PhD in Community Psychology, also at the University of Stirling. The title of the PhD was ‘Scottish secondary education from a critical community psychological perspective: power, control and exclusion'. The research was very practice led and centred on young people, in various educational settings learning about their experiences and beliefs of being excluded. Time was spent immersed in each educational setting participating and observing, and conducting focus groups and individual interviews with various staff. Rachael then went on to work as a Research Fellow at the University of Strathclyde, UK, on a project entitled "At Home Abroad: The Life Experiences of Children of Eastern European Migrant Workers in Scotland". The research project aimed to explore the experiences of children from Eastern European migrant families newly arrived in Scotland.

I teach in Microbiology and forensic science at a rural university in Australia (yes there are kangaroos on campus). I have teach internally, by distance and in blended mode. I am a advocate for teaching innovation at my university and hold workshops across mutliple campuses. My teaching style for studentd in 2nd year and above is constructionist based which brings with it challenges plus many rewards especially when working with people with more work experience than i have life experience. I am a member of the teaching and learning committe and am committed to researching teaching practices alongside of my more traditional bench type research as a microbiologist.
