Expansion of Teaching With Sakai Innovation Award
beginning with 2011 Award Year
Since the inception of the Teaching With Sakai Innovation Award at the Newport Beach Sakai ’07 Conference leading to the first award winners in Paris in 2008, the Award has recognized innovative teaching that demonstrates student engagement and has promoted these practices throughout the Sakai community.
Building on our past success and through a process of self-reflection, the Award Committee for 2011 began a review that led to a revision and expansion of the TWSIA and the award process. Many contributed to the effort including members of the Teaching & Learning Group, previous award judges, nominees and winners, Sakai Foundation Board members, and others in the Sakai community.
The following list highlights some of the more significant changes being made starting with the 2011 Award Year:
- A new Definition of Innovation used for the Award
- New Award Submission Categories
- A new TWSIA Rubric
- A revised application process
- A refinement of the judging process
